Senior Data Scientist II, Personalization

Careem is hiring a Senior Data Scientist II to own personalization across its Food, Quik and Shops verticals.

Location: Dubai, UAE (hybrid, four days a week in the office)

Type: Full-Time

Experience: 7 to 10 years in machine learning and predictive modeling

Key Responsibilities

• Lead personalization work that carries user intent signals between verticals
• Build graph-based retrieval and knowledge-graph pipelines for candidate generation and ranking
• Design and evaluate transformer-based sequential and contextual recommendation models
• Develop online and streaming learning systems that adapt within a session
• Build retrieval-augmented generation and LLM applications within the personalization stack
• Define metrics, run A/B tests and present findings to cross-functional teams
• Ship scalable machine learning models to production on large datasets

Requirements

• 2 to 4 years of industry experience in personalization, recommendation or search
• Advanced degree in a quantitative field such as statistics, mathematics, engineering or computer science
• Deep learning experience, especially attention mechanisms, retrieval models and transformers
• Proficiency in Python, SQL, Spark and Hive
• Experience with Hadoop, BigQuery or MySQL
• Knowledge graphs, streaming learning or geospatial data are a plus
